Spirit of the Sky Retreat Cabin

An hour north of Seattle on the Skykomish River surrounded by the northern Cascades, my Spirit of the Sky Retreat is an ideal place for meditative quiet and restoration along with world class hiking, rafting, and snow sports.

There was a time in the early 2000’s that I was in need of solace, and a space of retreat, so I found a home up on the Skykomish river.  I spent six to seven years there building a relationship with the river and riverbank. I learned the rhythms of the migrating salmon, the arrival and mating cycles of the eagles, the seasonally fluctuating river from wild flood transporting huge trees at dynamic speeds down stream to a steady river that quietly flowed through the summer days. I would awake to the prehistoric sound of blue heron flying up river and later on summer days hear the high chirping of hummingbirds in a swarming motion around the lilac bushes. I felt the connection between the weather, mountains and river and how their voices merged together in unison.  My eyes soaked up the dark northern starlit sky.  I sat in hot water outside in the snow and built a cairn to the river goddess. I heard the grinding of deep stone under the swollen torrent of  snow melt and rain induced torrents of mountain vitality all in a mad rush to the Ocean. Spring brought colorful kayakers steering through the rapids and later in summer the hot dry stone field of a riverbed lay exposed in its dreaming as the main current ran over ancient bones hugging the far riverbank.
So here still is the cabin.  After 2010 I needed to be closer to the city for my private practice and teaching.  My son and Nikki moved into the cabin to start their life together with a blessing from the wild, and then they too returned in a few years back to the city. As a family we chose to keep the place on for ourselves and for others to reconnect. The cabin has continued to be loved and to love all those crossing her threshold , welcoming those looking for a place of meditative quiet and restoration. My river home is available to book through Sea to Sky vacation rentals.

This cabin is on a beautiful piece of property surrounded by trees and with a roaring river right in the backyard! The kitchen is spacious and provided enough pots and pans to make a couple of nice dinners. The main bedroom has a cute little balcony, which is the perfect place to sit and listen to the river and the rain. The gas fireplace keeps the whole place nice and warm and is the perfect place to warm up after a soak in the hot tub. We will certainly be back!

This was a perfect place . One hour out of Seattle and yet feels like a whole different world. ..We had good weather and watched eagles fly along the river in the early morning before heading for the slopes to snowboard. Sleeping in the upstairs bedroom with balcony, we slept to the sound of the river. Yes a great place for our needs. Clean, welcoming , warm feeling and very relaxing getaway.

This was the perfect getaway cabin by the river. It was only an 8 minute drive to the middle of town and just steps from the river. The hot tub was perfect for our small group and we all slept comfortably in the two rooms. There was only one bathroom, which was downstairs and off of the kitchen, but it worked fine for us. We would all stay again if we have the chance!
