The winter threshold is arriving and I am looking forward to gathering online with our candles and crowns to celebrate the return of the light. Deep in the December darkness, we connect with our ancestors as we call back the sun from his visit to our southern relatives.

This ceremony finds me deeply connecting into an ancient stirring. A stirring of timelessness from our original songs of 200,000 years ago. A stirring of remembering when we, the human family, emerged out into the light of our planet. Remembering the sacred passage of Yuletide, marked by the burning of the yule log that reflects the time when the human family emerged out of caves and tunnels out into the new world, this version of our world. There is always trepidation of not quite knowing what greets us on the other side; so indeed what does await us as we step out into 2022?

Our European indigenous peoples called this festival Yuletide and the burning of the Yule log was kept through the mid-winter celebrations for ten days while it was understood that Grandfather Sun stood still with the Southern Cross before returning back up north. The mistletoe from the oak tree is gathered on this day and hung for the mid-winter festivities and the holly is gathered to protect the homes and remind Grandfather Sun that the sacred tree of summer is awaiting his return.

    What to bring

    • Decorate your Zoom frame with twinkly lights and candles

    • Bring a lighter to light candles with during the ceremony

    • Fruit and nuts to share at the closing

    • Bowl of water and feather for purification.

    • Let us dress up if we wish

    • Antlers if you have them!

Join me for a Winter Solstice Ceremony. Reindeer headbands, crowns, elf and gnome hats, are all most welcome. We will gather, sing, greet and dance the ancient deer dance together so we can join hands through time, and our feet can tap out the call of celebration.

    Blessings,

    Sarah
